In a hard-fought women's soccer match at Spirit Field today, OUAZ Spirit emerged victorious over Hope International University (HIU) by a score of 3-2.
Harlee Kuntz scored her first goal of the season in the 30th minute off an assist from Melinda Lertzman. In the second half, the Spirit (10-2, 3-1 GSAC) opened the flood gates as they scored twice. First, in the 67th minute when Lertzman scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season to break a 1-1 tie. Then about six minutes later,
Karissa Frerichs scored her second goal of the season to give the Spirit a 3-1 lead. HIU scored in the 81
st minute to close out the scoring.
Both teams had 11 shots, with OUAZ landing eight on target, and HIU having seven on target. The goalkeepers played a crucial role with both making five saves each.
Corner kicks favored HIU with six, while OUAZ had two. The game saw a total of 11 fouls, with Hope committing seven and OUAZ committing four.
