Reverse Sweep Highlights Day One in Nebraska

BELLEVUE, Neb. – The opening day of play at the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic was eventful for the 24th-ranked OUAZ women's volleyball team. After securing a 3-1 win over Olivet Nazarene to start the day, OUAZ rallied from two sets down to beat Doane in the nightcap.

In a competitive match, the Spirit defeated Olivet Nazarene 26-24, 24-26, 25-15, 25-21. Each team totaled 47 kills, with the Spirit hitting .166 against the .091 of the Tigers. OUAZ used 70 digs and nine blocks to create enough separation.

Livia De Pra posted a double-double of 18 kills and 16 digs to lead the Spirit. She hit .306 while also adding one service ace. Shea Marovich added nine kills on .538 hitting, with Jessica Pearce contributing six kills, four blocks, and three aces.

After dropping the first two sets to Doane, OUAZ rallied back for the 18-15, 19-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-13 victory. It is the sixth reverse sweep in program history.

The offense struggled for the Spirit in the opening two sets but came alive by hitting over .233 with at least 12 kills in each of the final three sets. That gave the team 66 kills in the match on .215 hitting. Doane opened the match by hitting .464 in the first set before slowing to a .200 percentage when the match ended.

De Pra notched a career-high 23 kills – tied for third-most in a match in program history – with a .206 attack percentage and 15 digs. Gloria Moye added nine kills and three blocks. Pearce had nine kills and two blocks.

Logan Kuehn delivered 52 assists, and 18 digs, and Kenzie Kuxhaus led the team with 23 digs.

The Spirit will play another two matches on Saturday. They start against No. 14 Montana Tech before facing Cornerstone.
