Softball Records Split at Menlo

ATHERTON, Calif. – As the end of the regular season approaches, the OUAZ softball team picked up another doubleheader split on Saturday with Menlo at Wunderlich Field. OUAZ fell in the opener 1-4 before earning a 3-2 win in game two.

The Spirit sits at 31-17 overall and 12-10 in the GSAC, with one series remaining.

GAME 1: Menlo 4, OUAZ 1
Laurynn De Anda doubled home Andraya Rhinehart in the top of the first for the Spirit, but that would be all the offense the team would manage in the game. Menlo tied the game with a run in the third, and they scored two in the fourth and another in the sixth for the final margin.

OUAZ got five hits from five different players, with the De Anda and Rhinehart posting a double each. They were just 1 for 4 with runners in scoring position.

In five innings, Phoebe Popplewell gave up four runs (two earned) on six hits.

GAME 2: OUAZ 3, Menlo 2
After falling behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first, OUAZ countered with a three-run second inning to take the lead. Alex Gill drove home the first run with a double, and then Rachel Stockseth knocked a two-run triple that proved to be the difference.

Stockseth and Katelyn Chambers recorded two hits apiece to lead the Spirit's eight-hit attack.

Cori Turner was solid in the circle to start allowing just the two runs (one earned) on three hits. Alexandra McCutchen went the final four innings without allowing a run on three hits to pick up the win.

The Spirit is now tied for third in the GSAC standings with a doubleheader at Arizona Christian on Tuesday remaining to determine the seeding for the GSAC Tournament.
