Spirit Open Pool Play with Sweep

DES MOINES, Iowa – The OUAZ men's volleyball team began its run at the NAIA National Championship with a 3-0 sweep of Saint Xavier on Tuesday at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex.

In securing the 25-19, 26-24, 25-21 win, OUAZ (25-3) moves to 1-0 in Pool B and puts them into a situation where a win on Thursday will advance the Spirit into the semifinals.

The efficient offensive attack was on display for the Spirit as they totaled 39 kills with a .338 attack percentage. They closed out the win with 16 kills on .500 hitting in the third set.

Jordan Moses led the way for the Spirit with 16 kills and a .480 attack percentage. Quaid King added 10 kills (.316), with no other player finishing with more than four kills.

Saint Xavier (26-10) tallied 34 kills, but OUAZ held the Cougars to .098 hitting and below .100 in two of the three sets. The Spirit finished with 12 blocks and 17 digs.

King had a team-best six blocks, while Colin Donisthorpe and Jonathan Igo had five blocks apiece. King also snagged 10 digs for his first career double-double.

OUAZ will complete pool play against Park at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
