Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Water Polo Splits First Day at Claremont Convergence

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The first day of the Claremont Convergence is complete, with the OUAZ women's water polo team splitting its two games. OUAZ opened the day by falling to California Baptist 17-12 before coming back to defeat Fresno Pacific 14-13.

OUAZ is now 7-12 on the season, with two more games remaining this weekend.

GAME 1: Cal Baptist 17, OUAZ 12
After each team ran off three consecutive goals to see the game tied with 2:10 to play in the first quarter, Cal Baptist outscored the Spirit 9-2 the rest of the half to take a 12-5 lead into the intermission. Eventually trailing 15-8 early in the fourth quarter, the Spirit tallied four of the game's final six goals.

Cierra Crouch led OUAZ with three goals on four shots. Tori Higginson, Rachel Hughes, and Kendall Patrick added two goals apiece.

GAME 2: OUAZ 14, Fresno Pacific 13
It was another slow start for the Spirit against Fresno Pacific as they trailed the Firebirds 7-3 midway through the second quarter. After OUAZ came back to eventually take an 11-10 lead through three quarters, Crouch provided the Spirit a two-goal advantage with the first tally of the fourth quarter.

The team then traded goals, and Jenna Rasmussen scored with 1:15 to play to again make the Spirit advantage two. FPU was able to pull one back with 12 seconds remaining, but the Spirit held on for the win.

Crouch had four goals and an assist against FPU. Rasmussen and Kylee Wesemann added two goals and two assists.

OUAZ will be back in the pool on Saturday to face Connecticut College at 11:15 a.m. (AZ) and La Salle at 3 p.m. (AZ).
