Lions Slow Spirit

COSTA MESA, Calif. – Coming off its first road win of the season, the OUAZ women's basketball team ran into a team with a mission as Vanguard defeated the Spirit 86-55 on Saturday afternoon.

OUAZ (6-17, 3-12 GSAC) never led as Vanguard (9-10, 5-9) outscored them 30-10 in the first quarter. The Spirit shot 35.8 percent from the field with seven makes from beyond the arc.

Virginia Edmondson led the Spirit with 13 points. Marlee Johnson added seven points and five rebounds.

Vanguard scored 27 points from the 22 OUAZ turnovers while adding a 32-12 advantage in points in the paint. Airiana Madanski led the Lions with 25 points.

The Spirit will return home for the final two home games of the season next week, starting on Thursday against Menlo.
