OUAZ Wins Twice at Pirate Invitational

PARKVILLE, Mo. – The 12th-ranked OUAZ men's volleyball team picked up a pair of wins at the Pirate Invitational on Saturday to finish the event with a second-place finish in the eight-team tournament. OUAZ swept Culver-Stockton in their morning match before earning a tight five-set win over Mount Mercy to end the day.

OUAZ (7-1) cruised by Culver-Stockton (0-7) to start the day 25-12, 25-12, 25-13. The Spirit hit .581 – including .609 and .684 in sets two and three, respectively – with a 41-20 edge in kills. They held the Wildcats to negative-.024 hitting by recording 32 digs and eight blocks.

Addah Nestor, Conner Duyck, and Quaid King each had six kills in the win. Blane Baclig had a pair of aces and six digs to lead the team in each category.

Playing for the fourth time in less than 24 hours, the Spirit dropped the first set to Mount Mercy before coming back for the 21-25, 25-19, 25-13, 27-29, 15-9 win. OUAZ took advantage of 31 serving errors from the Mustangs to overcome a 54-44 deficit in kills.

In the win, Jordan Moses tallied 11 kills, 10 digs, and seven blocks. Emery Outin and Colin Donisthorpe added eight kills apiece. Donisthorpe recorded 11 blocks to help the team post 17 blocks, with each being one shy of the school records.

The Spirit will play at home for the first time this season on Tuesday when they host No. 6 Benedictine Mesa in Faith Arena at 6 p.m.
