OUAZ Splits on First Day of Pirate Invitational after Defeating No. 8 Missouri Valley

PARKVILLE, Mo. – The 12th-ranked OUAZ men's volleyball team opened its trip to the Pirate Invitational by splitting a pair of matches on Friday. OUAZ (5-1) defeated No. 8 Missouri Valley in four sets in their opener before falling in four sets against No. 4 Park to end the day.

The Spirit dropped the first set against Missouri Valley (3-2) before winning the next three to earn the 20-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-23 upset. OUAZ hit .316 with 48 kills while holding Missouri Valley to .165 hitting behind 14 blocks.

Emery Outin led the way for the Spirit with 17 kills while hitting .429. Jordan Moses added 13 kills and six blocks. Brenden Hardt totaled seven blocks and six kills.

OUAZ took the first set from Park in the nightcap before the Pirates won the next three to snap the Spirit's five-match winning streak with the 20-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-20 win.

Park ended the night with a 48-41 edge in kills, and they hit .200 while holding OUAZ to .119. The Pirates also slowed the Spirit service game to just one ace while posting six against OUAZ.

Moses led the Spirit with 13 kills with a .175 attack percentage. He added 11 digs for his first double-double of the season. Outin tallied nine kills, and Hardt had five blocks.

The Spirit wraps up the trip to Missouri on Saturday with matches against Culver-Stockton and Mount Mercy.
