No. 9 Spirit Survive Five-Set Battle with No. 12 Mustangs

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – It took a little bit of everything for No. 9 OUAZ to escape The MacArthur Center with a 3-2 win over No. 12 The Master's on Saturday afternoon in Golden State Athletic Conference action.

OUAZ (12-1, 2-0 GSAC) used the 25-19, 19-25, 27-25, 19-25, 15-13 victory to run its winning streak to seven straight overall and 11 consecutive conference wins. To get it done, the Spirit needed to fight off a set point in the third and then hold on as The Master's (8-4, 1-1) stormed back from a 13-9 deficit in the fifth.

For the second straight match, the Spirit finished with fewer kills than its opponent with 51 compared to the Mustangs' 59. TMU even hit .258 while holding the Spirit to .180, but the 21 serving errors from the home side proved too much to overcome.

Jordan Moses led the Spirit with 14 kills and two aces while adding three blocks. Colin Donisthorpe contributed 12 kills on .364, hitting with six blocks.

Each team would tally 33 digs, and Tatum Gray had 13 for the Spirit to lead all players. Nicho Calles finished with 43 assists.

TMU had four players in double figures in kills, with Diego Perez leading with 16.

OUAZ will return to the road next weekend with a trip to northern California for two matches, starting at Pacific Union on Thursday.
