OUAZ Falls to Warriors in Home Finale

SURPRISE, Ariz. – In their final home game of the season, the OUAZ women's basketball team went nearly nine minutes without scoring and never recovered in a 95-56 loss to William Jessup on Saturday.

Trailing 16-14 with 3:07 to play in the first quarter, OUAZ (6-19, 3-14 GSAC) went scoreless for the next 9:05 of play as William Jessup (14-14, 9-7) scored 23 straight points to take control of the game. The Spirit missed 13 consecutive shots and had four turnovers during the run.

The game ended with the Spirit shooting 26.3 percent with seven makes from beyond the arc. While they committed a season-low nine turnovers, they had no answers for the 59.1 percent shooting from the Warriors that included 11 of 19 (57.9%) from three.

Marlee Johnson led three Spirit players in double figures with 15 points. She hit three from deep and grabbed five rebounds. Virginia Edmondson and Makayla Holthaus added 10 points apiece.

OUAZ will close its regular season on February 19 with a trip to Glendale to face Arizona Christian.
