Sledge Ties Rebound Record in Loss to No. 18 UMW

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Tiana Sledge tied the program record with 18 rebounds as the OUAZ women's basketball team fell to No. 18 Montana Western 70-40 on Saturday afternoon at Faith Arena.

Sledge grabbed 18 rebounds in the defeat to become the third player in team history to reach the record total. It's her eighth game this season with double-digit rebounds, including the third straight. She also led the team with nine points and three steals.

OUAZ (5-8) shot 28.1 percent from the floor and committed 22 turnovers. Montana Western (7-2) ended the game at 37.7 percent shooting with 12 made threes.

Cierra Kiser and Melissa Simmons had eight points each off the Spirit bench. Simmons made both of the team's two 3-pointers, and she had two assists.

Montana Western never trailed after the Bulldogs opened the game on a 12-0 run. They then scored the first 16 points of the second half to put the game away.

Shainy Mack led the Bulldogs with 15 points.

The Spirit is off for Christmas before returning to action on January 5 at Vanguard.
