2022-23 Women's Basketball Notes -- Week 6

THE WEEK AHEAD
The OUAZ women's basketball team will close out 2022 with a home game against No. 18 Montana Western on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Faith Arena. The matchup is the first-ever meeting between the teams.

The action will be available online through the OUAZ Digital Network at OUAZSpirit.com/watch. The game will also be broadcast on the GSAC Sports Network app on Amazon Fire, Apple TV, and Roku devices.

ABOUT THE SPIRIT
OUAZ will bring a 5-7 overall record into Saturday's matinee. The Spirit is coming off an 80-73 loss at Arizona Christian on December 8. They are 4-2 at home after splitting two games at Faith Arena the first week of December.

OUAZ averages 64.4 points per game while shooting 35.9 percent from the field. They lead the conference in free throws made (14.9) and attempted per game (21.8) and rank third by making 68.3 percent of those attempts.

The opposition is scoring 71.2 points per game on 39.4 percent shooting. The Spirit force 20.5 turnovers per game and averages 10.7 steals and 2.8 blocks per contest.

OUAZ is grabbing 44.2 rebounds per game while ranking second in the GSAC by snagging 16.3 offensive rebounds per game. They add 12.8 assists per outing.

70 THE NUMBER
In the program's history, OUAZ holds a 31-8 record when scoring at least 70 points in a game. That includes a 15-1 mark when scoring 80 points in a game, including 12 straight victories. This season, the Spirit is 3-1 when reaching the 70-point mark.

FAST START HELPFUL
Leading at halftime has been a deciding factor for the Spirit, who are 36-5 all-time when leading at intermission. In contrast, they are 6-70 when trailing at the break.

SPIRIT LEADERS
Tiana Sledge leads OUAZ by scoring 13.3 points and grabbing 10.1 rebounds per game. She is one of three players in the conference that currently averages a double-double. Her 4.3 offensive rebounds per game rank second in the GSAC. Sledge has scored in double figures seven times with two 20-point games and seven double-doubles. 

Marlee Johnson is scoring 10.8 points per game while grabbing 7.3 rebounds per night. She has two 20-point scoring efforts and one double-double. Johnson shoots 36.7 percent from the field and 85.2 percent at the foul line.

Tatiana Gary is third on the team scoring 8.3 points per game. She is third in the GSAC by shooting 83.8 percent. Gary has scored in double figures five times.

Melissa Simmons is scoring 7.8 points per game and has a team-best 16 made 3-pointers. She has scored in double figures five times and has five games with multiple made threes.

Landyn Lovelady averages 7.8 points per game, and she leads the team with 35 assists.
