2022-23 Women's Basketball Notes -- Week 4

THE WEEK AHEAD
After taking a week off to celebrate Thanksgiving, the OUAZ women's basketball team returns to action with its first two home conference games of the season this week. OUAZ starts by hosting San Diego Christian on Thursday at 5 p.m. They will then play host to Hope International on Saturday at noon. 

The action will be available online through the OUAZ Digital Network at OUAZSpirit.com/watch. The games will also be broadcast on the GSAC Sports Network app on Amazon Fire, Apple TV, and Roku devices.

OPENING TIP
OUAZ will enter December with a 4-5 overall record, which is the team's second-best record through nine games in program history. They are tied for eighth in the GSAC with an 0-2 record after dropping both games during the road trip last time out. The Spirit has won two straight in Faith Arena and is 3-1 overall at home this season.

ABOUT THE SPIRIT
Entering the weekend, OUAZ averages 64.0 points per game while shooting 35.5 percent from the field. They lead the conference in free throws made (16.4) and attempted per game (23.7) and rank third by making 69.5 percent of those attempts.

The opposition is scoring 71.1 points per game on 40.1 percent shooting. The Spirit force 21.0 turnovers per game and averages 11.2 steals and 2.9 blocks per contest.

OUAZ averages 43.9 rebounds per game while ranking third in the GSAC and 20th in the NAIA by snagging 16.8 offensive rebounds per game. They add 12.9 assists per outing.

70 THE NUMBER
In the program's history, OUAZ holds a 30-7 record when scoring at least 70 points in a game. That includes a 15-1 mark when scoring 80 points in a game, including 11 straight victories. This season, the Spirit is 2-0 when reaching the 70-point mark.

FAST START HELPFUL
Leading at halftime has been a deciding factor for the Spirit, where they are 35-5 all-time when leading at intermission. In contrast, they are 6-68 when trailing at the break.

SPIRIT LEADERS
Tiana Sledge is one of three players in the GSAC that averages a double-double. She leads OUAZ by scoring 14.0 points and grabbing 10.3 rebounds per game. Her 4.3 offensive rebounds per game rank 17th in the NAIA. Sledge has scored in double figures five times with two 20-point games and five double-doubles. 

Marlee Johnson is scoring 9.4 points per game while grabbing 7.0 rebounds per night. She has a 20-point scoring effort and one double-double. Her 82.6 percent at the foul line is third in the GSAC.

Landyn Lovelady is the team's third-leading scorer at 8.0 points per game. She leads the Spirit with 26 assists while adding 18 steals. Lovelady has scored in double figures four times and twice recorded at least five assists.

Tatiana Gary is second in the GSAC by shooting 88.0 percent at the foul line, and she has made 12 straight attempts from the line. Gary scores 7.9 points per game and has scored in double figures three times.
