OUAZ Drops Conference Opener to Mustangs

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The first conference game of the season for the OUAZ women's basketball team saw the Spirit fall to 19th-ranked The Master's 86-52 on Thursday night at the MacArthur Center.

OUAZ (4-4, 0-1 GSAC) got off to another slow start as Master's (4-0, 1-0) outscored the Spirit 18-6 in the first quarter. OUAZ had just six baskets in the first half and ended the game shooting 32.1 percent. They finished 1 of 6 from beyond the arc while making 15 of 18 from the foul line.

The Mustangs went on a 12-0 run early in the second quarter that changed the direction of the game. OUAZ had cut the deficit to 10 before the run but never got closer than 20 the rest of the night.

TMU shot 49.2 percent with 32 points in the paint and six threes. They outrebounded the Spirit 43-30 and held a 10-0 edge in points from turnovers.

Tiana Sledge led the Spirit with 12 points and eight rebounds. Cierra Kiser added 10 points, and Marlee Johnson scored eight.

Ella Brubaker scored 34 points to lead the Mustangs.

OUAZ now heads to Santa Barbara, Calif., where they will face No. 2 Westmont on Saturday at 1 p.m. AZT.
