Buccaneers Too Much for Spirit

MESA, Ariz. – It was a tough afternoon for the OUAZ women's basketball team as they fell at Park Gilbert 75-52 at Bell Bank Park. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak by the Spirit.

OUAZ (3-3) started slowly, with just two baskets in the first quarter and shooting 7 of 33 in the first half. They ended at 29.3 percent for the game and failed to make a three for the first time in program history.

Park Gilbert (2-0) went on a 14-0 run as part of a 33-17 second quarter that essentially put the game out of reach. The Buccaneers shot 46.0 percent with a 40-18 edge in points in the paint.

Makayla Holthaus led the Spirit with 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench.

The Spirit will be back in action on Monday with a home game against Benedictine Mesa at 6 p.m.
