Spirit Rally for Crucial Road Win

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – For the third time this season, the OUAZ women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit and came away with a win over The Master's in five sets on Saturday afternoon at The MacArthur Center.

After the first three sets were tightly contested and led to The Master's (9-8, 4-6 GSAC) one away from winning, OUAZ (11-9, 6-5) took over the match in the fourth set and came home with a 25-22, 21-25, 24-26, 25-15, 15-6 road win.

The Spirit turned this around by reducing their hitting errors in the final two sets. They committed only four hitting errors in the final two frames after totaling 26 in the first three stanzas. That helped the team finish with 52 kills with a .135 attack percentage.

Rylie Henige anchored the Spirit attack with 12 kills on a .321 hitting effort. Her seventh double-digit kills match of the season came with only three errors. Livia De Pra added 10 kills, with Gloria Moye and Jessica Pearce adding eight apiece.

And while the offense got going, the Spirit defense continued to slow the Mustangs and held the home team to 49 kills and .086 hitting. In slowing the TMU attack, the Spirit totaled 79 digs and 12 blocks while using nine service aces to create separation.

Kenzie Kuxhaus led all players with 22 digs, with Evonne Rodriguez adding 18 and De Pra 13. Pearce notched six blocks, and Moye had five. Logan Kuehn finished with 37 assists and five service aces.

The win helps the Spirit's chances of qualifying for the GSAC Tournament as one of the top six teams in the final regular season standings. They will look for another win to help their cause when they host Hope International in Faith Arena on Friday.
