Defense Leads Spirit to Home Sweep of Royals

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Using one of its best defensive efforts of the season, the OUAZ women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep over Hope International on Friday night at Faith Arena.

OUAZ (12-9, 7-5 GSAC) helped its quest of making the GSAC Tournament with the 26-24, 25-12, 25-20 victory. They remained in fourth place with the top six in the final standings making the tournament.

The Spirit defense finished with nine blocks and 58 digs to lead the charge in the win. They held Hope International (5-15, 4-8) to only 28 kills and .034 hitting. The Royals hit negative in both the second and third sets and had just 12 kills over the final two frames.

Jessica Pearce had a match-high five blocks, and Logan Kuehn led the team with 14 digs. She also posted 32 assists and two service aces. Kenzie Kuxhaus and Live De Pra added 12 digs apiece.

On the attack, OUAZ totaled 40 kills on .165 hitting, with 16 kills in the first set and another 13 in the third. Rylie Henige led the team with 13 kills, while De Pra added eight.

The Spirit returns to Faith Arena on Saturday to host Life Pacific at 1 p.m.
