Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Fast Start Not Enough to Win at Westmont

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – It was a solid start to the road trip for the OUAZ women's volleyball team as they took the first set from Westmont on Friday, but the home team rallied back for a 3-1 win over the Spirit.

OUAZ (10-9, 5-5 GSAC) forced Westmont (13-7, 7-2) into negative-.034 hitting in winning the first set. The Warriors would get the offense turned around after that to pull out the 14-25, 25-18, 25-11, 29-27 victory to earn a season split with the Spirit.

The attack of the Spirit never really got going, as they managed only 35 kills on the night and only reached double figures in a set during the fourth. After they struggled in the first, Westmont came back to post 46 kills on .161 hitting overall.

Livia De Pra led the Spirit with 11 kills, and she recorded 15 digs to give her 507 in her career, where she became the fourth player in program history to reach 500 digs in their OUAZ career.

OUAZ finished the night with 66 digs and eight blocks. Kenzie Kuxhaus had 20 digs, and Jessica Pearce finished with three blocks.

It's a quick turnaround for the Spirit as they look to earn a season sweep of The Master's when they face the Mustangs on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Santa Clarita.
