OUAZ Falls to Langston in Program’s First Overtime Game

LANGSTON, Okla. – In its first road game in three weeks, the 13th-ranked OUAZ football team surrendered an early lead and fell to Langston 44-38 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at W.E. Anderson Stadium.

OUAZ (5-2, 5-2 SAC) had jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter after a Marcelous Chester-Riley touchdown run and Isaiah Randalle TD passes to Terrell Littlejohn and CJ Sullivan. Langston (7-1, 6-1) outscored the Spirit 17-10 in the second quarter and then had the first score after halftime to get within 31-24.

The Spirit extended the lead to 38-24 when Randalle connected with Donovahn Jones for an 8-yard score with 8:39 to play in the third. That would be the final score of the day for the Spirit as Langston posted the final 20 points of the game.

Tied at 38-38 after the Lions missed a field goal in the final seconds of regulation, the game went to overtime for the first time in OUAZ program history. On the second snap of the extra session, Kristopher Ewens fumbled, and Langston's Xzavion Florence recovered and went 93 yards for the walk-off touchdown.

OUAZ finished with three turnovers that resulted in 13 points for the Lions. Langston committed two turnovers, and they gained 536 yards of offense – including 385 through the air – while allowing 436 yards to the Spirit.

Randalle finished with 278 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in the red zone. He completed passes to ten different receivers, led by Jonah Alicea and his five grabs for 50 yards. Ewens ran for 119 yards, with Chester-Riley and Randalle adding 27 and 13 yards, respectively.

While allowing the most yards in a game this season, the OUAZ defense tied a program record with seven sacks. Seth Ham led the team with three sacks and eight tackles, with Brandon Tomerlin Jr. adding two sacks and seven tackles. Ryan Payne had an interceptions and three pass breakups.

The Spirit will now have another open week before hosting Wayland Baptist at Spirit Field on November 5.
