OUAZ Drops Home Game to Hawks

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Two first-half goals proved enough for San Diego Christian to surprise the OUAZ women's soccer team in a 2-0 win at Spirit Field on Thursday evening.

OUAZ (8-3-1, 2-1-1 GSAC) came out flat, and it cost them as San Diego Christian (4-4-4, 1-2-1) took the lead on a goal from Isabella Coronado in the 24th minute. Her shot from just outside the box went across and into the side netting for the lead.

The Hawks made it 2-0 in the 28th minute when Ashlyn Edwards put a free kick from 30 yards out off the Spirit wall and passed a diving keeper.

OUAZ turned up the pressure in the second half with 11 shot attempts, but they could not find a goal. That only helped the Spirit finish the game with a 14-10 edge in total shots. They managed just five shots on goal.

The result leaves the Spirit in a tie for second in the GSAC table with seven points. They host first-place Vanguard on Saturday at 10 a.m.
