2022 Men's Soccer Notes -- Week 8

The final home weekend of the regular season is on tap for the 24th-ranked OUAZ men's soccer team. OUAZ will begin the week by hosting San Diego Christian on Thursday. They then welcome Vanguard on Saturday for Senior Day.

OUAZ closes out its home slate with an 8-3-1 overall record after splitting a pair of games last week in California. The Spirit currently leads the GSAC with a 3-1 record and nine points. They have a 4-1 record at Spirit Field and have outscored their opponents 10-2 in those games.

The top six in the final GSAC standings qualify for the conference tournament, with two top two earning a bye to the final weekend at Menlo on November 10 & 13. The No. 3 and 4 seeds will host quarterfinal games on November 5.

For the season, OUAZ has scored 23 goals for an average of 1.92 goals per game. The team attempts 13.67 shots per game, with 53.7 percent of those shots on goal. They lead the GSAC and rank 20th in the NAIA with 78 corner kicks.

The opposition has scored 12 goals while taking 8.4 shots per game. OUAZ keepers hold a .721 save percentage, and the team is second in the conference with four shutouts.

Tinashe Simbo has scored seven goals to lead the Spirit and tie for the lead in the conference. He also leads the GSAC with 18 points and three game-winning goals. Simbo has taken 30 shots and put 14 on goal.

Titouan Desveaux is third in the GSAC with six goals and fifth with 14 points. He also had three game-winning goals, and his 18 shots on goal place second in the conference.

Jamaine Turner has tallied five goals and added three assists for 13 points. He is fourth in the GSAC with 30 shots and ninth with 14 shots on goal.

Tom Cohen has a team-best 32 shots – second in the GSAC – and he has three assists and five points.

Adam Salama enters the weekend with a 6-2-1 record, with his six wins leading the GSAC and ranking 16th nationally. Salama has made 19 saves with a .731 save percentage and two shutouts.
