OUAZ Posts Shutout of Mustangs for First Conference Win

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's soccer team posted its first win of the conference season with a 2-0 shutout over The Master's on Saturday morning at Spirit Field.

OUAZ (7-2-1, 1-0-1 GSAC) took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute as Cassidi Calzaretta converted a penalty kick for her fourth goal of the season. The Spirit was awarded the penalty following a foul on the keeper to prevent a scoring chance for the Spirit.

The Master's (2-6-2, 0-1-1) nearly pulled even in the 24th minute on a pair of chances from Sinclair Francescon that were turned away by the OUAZ defense and then keeper Chloe Gutierrez.

Anabella Bara provided the insurance goal in the 69th minute as she redirected a cross from Amanda Witkowski into the net for her third goal of the season. Neither team generated any dangerous scoring chances the rest of the game.

OUAZ finished with 13 total shots and five shots on goal. They also took a season-high 12 corner kicks. Five different players had two shots for the Spirit.

Gutierrez came up with four saves to post her second shutout of the season.

OUAZ makes the trip to Fullerton, California, next to face Hope International on Thursday.
