Women's Basketball Notes -- Week 10

THIS WEEK
The OUAZ women's basketball team begins its sprint to the end of the regular season this week with a pair of home GSAC games. The Spirit begins the week by hosting Hope International on Thursday at 5 p.m. They will then host San Diego Christian on Saturday at noon.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
OUAZ starts this week looking to snap its five-game losing streak. This season, the Spirit is 5-14 and 5-5 at Faith Arena. They are currently ninth in the GSAC with a 2-9 record in conference games.

The Spirit averages 44.9 points per game while shooting 32.6 percent from the field. They make 24.9 percent from beyond the arc, averaging 4.4 threes per contest.

OUAZ has been effective in blocking shots this season, where they are second in the GSAC by blocking 3.4 shots per game. The Spirit has recorded at least one block in all but two games this season, with 10 games with at least three blocks.

ABOUT THE SPIRIT
Makayla Holthaus currently leads the Spirit with 142 points for an average of 9.5 points per game. She has scored in double figures eight times – including three straight – and had a career-high 21 points against The Master's on December 2.

Sedona Anderson has scored 137 points at an average of 9.1 points per game. She has been the team's top threat from beyond the arc, with 27 made threes while shooting 33.8 percent from deep. Anderson has a made 3-pointer in 11 straight games.

Marlee Johnson has added 122 points by scoring 8.1 points per game. She has scored in double figures five times with a pair of 20-point outings. Johnson is second on the team with 81 rebounds while adding 16 assists and 13 steals.

Cierra Kiser averages 6.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Her 82 total rebounds are the most on the team, and she has led the team in rebounds five times this season.

ABOUT HOPE INTERNATIONAL
Hope International will visit Surprise with a 19-2 overall record and riding an 8-game winning streak. The Royals are tied for second in the GSAC with a 9-2 conference record.

Ana Resendiz leads four players who average double figures at 13.6 points per game. She leads the GSAC with 67 made threes.

Shiane Talley adds 12.7 points per game, having scored in double figures 12 times with three 20-point outings. Talley is sixth in the GSAC by grabbing 7.9 rebounds per game.

ABOUT SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN
San Diego Christian will begin the week with a 6-13 overall record. The Hawks are eighth in the GSAC with a 3-8 record in conference play.

Isabel Feller is the Hawks' leading scorer at 15.0 points per game, where she ranks seventh in the GSAC. She has reached double figures in 17 of the 19 games the team has played.

Maddison Zugna provides the team 10.4 points per game with nine games in double figures.
