Spirit Fall to Buccaneers in Non-Conference Action

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's basketball team lost to Park Gilbert 63-53 on Tuesday night in a non-conference game at Faith Arena.

OUAZ (5-14) led 8-5 early before they scored just three points during a span of eight minutes, 37 seconds over the first and second quarters. Park Gilbert (9-7) opened a double-digit lead that they never relinquished during the drought.

The Spirit ended the night shooting 30.4 percent from the field while making just 5 of 22 from beyond the arc. They did tally a 42-41 edge on the boards while posting 14 assists.

Makayla Holthaus led the Spirit with 10 points and seven rebounds. Virginia Edmondson added nine points, with Sedona Anderson and Cierra Kiser scoring seven each.

Park Gilbert turned the 29 Spirit turnovers into 31 points. Macy Markus led the Buccaneers with 16 points.

OUAZ returns to GSAC play on Thursday when they host Hope International in Faith Arena at 5 p.m.
