OUAZ Claims Second NCCAA Championship

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – For the second time in program history, the OUAZ men's volleyball team is champions of the NCCAA after the Spirit swept a pair of matches at the 2022 NCCAA National Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

OUAZ (4-0) started the day with a record-setting performance in its 25-7, 25-8, 25-2 win over Maranatha Baptist. The Spirit totaled 35 kills with just one hitting error to post a .810 attack percentage. According to published records, that would be the highest attack percentage by a team in a men's volleyball match at any collegiate level.

The Spirit had 11 different players record a kill in the match, with Conner Duyck leading the way with seven kills despite playing just the third set. Quaid King added five kills and four service aces.

By defeating Maranatha Baptist, OUAZ set up a championship match against Trinity Christian in the tournament's final match. The Spirit would win the title by downing the Trolls 25-16, 25-19, 25-14 to claim the blue banner to match the one earned in 2019.

The offense once again carried the day as the Spirit banged out 36 kills on .347 hitting. They also slowed what had been a potent TCC attack by limiting the Trolls to 22 kills and .013 attacking. OUAZ also posted seven service aces.

Jordan Moses led the Spirit attack with 12 kills and .375 hitting. He added eight digs and a pair of blocks. King finished with seven kills and two aces. Colin Donisthorpe posted four kills and two blocks.

Donisthorpe was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament, and Emery Outin was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Off to a 4-0 start for the second time in program history, OUAZ will return to action at the Pirate Invitational on February 4-5 in Parkville, Mo.
