OUAZ Overcomes Slow Start to Sweep TIU

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team picked up a third straight sweep on Saturday afternoon as the Spirit defeated Trinity International 26-24, 25-15, 25-18.

After pulling out a contested opening set, OUAZ (6-0) was able to control the rest of the match behind a solid offensive effort. The Spirit finished with 48 kills and had at least 15 kills in each set. Their hitting percentage improved as the match went along and ended at .274.

And while they were dictating the game offensively, the Spirit held Trinity International (1-5) to only 26 kills and .087 hitting. That included a set where the Trojans managed just four kills on negative-.065 hitting.

Kate Pestova led the Spirit with 14 kills. Avie Butsko added 12 kills on .409, hitting for her third double-digit kills match of the year. Livia De Pra contributed eight kills, 11 digs, and two service aces.

Valentina Trovato and Eve Rodriguez also had 11 digs apiece in the win. Cristal Carrizoza picked up 37 assists to go with seven kills, five digs, and two aces. Chelsea Taylor had three blocks.

OUAZ now gets set for GSAC play as they head across town to play at Arizona Christian on Wednesday in Glendale.
