Calzaretta, Jones Score Twice in Rout of PUG

SURPRISE, ARIZ. - The OUAZ women's soccer team returned home for the first time in over a week, and extended its win streak to three with a 5-0 victory over Park-Gilbert Friday night.

The Spirit came out of the gates firing home three goals in the first 18 minutes. It started with Saipress Jones in the 7', putting one across the goal line after a great setup from Cassidi Calzaretta. Calzaretta decided to jump in on the scoring, getting a goal of her own in the 14'.

Jones struck again in the 18' to put the Spirit up 3-0 early in the first half. OUAZ did not score again until the 81', where Melia Merritt and Calzaretta scored goals 11 seconds apart, the second-fastest scores in program history.

OUAZ fired off 20 shots on Friday, with eight of them hitting the target. Cass. Calzaretta took four of those, and she along with Saipress Jones led the way with two shots on goal apiece.

A pair of OUAZ goalkeepers made their debuts on Friday, with Carli Calzaretta getting the nod for her first career start. She played 73:15 before Octavia McGraw-Giger came in for the final 16:45. Neither keeper had to make a save as the Spirit played suffocating defense all night.

OUAZ will have a week off before traveling to California for a pair of games. The trip begins with a matchup against Marymount California on Sept. 11, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
