Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Spirit Secure Road Sweep in Five-Set Victory

The 20th-ranked OUAZ women's volleyball team hit the road this weekend, looking to solidify itself as the GSAC's best team. After winning Friday night, the Spirit battled through a tougher test at William Jessup on Saturday to take the weekend sweep, three sets to two, in Rocklin, Calif.

OUAZ trailed early on in the fifth set, surrendering the first three points and four of the first five. Being down 5-3, the Spirit went on a 10-2 run to pull away to stay undefeated in conference play.

Kate Pestova had another excellent afternoon, finishing with 23 kills and 12 digs. It is the third time this season Pestova has recorded 23 kills, which is also the single-game high for a Spirit player this season.

A night after dropping 15 service aces on Menlo, Spirit serves found the court ten times on Saturday. Carrizoza led the way with five aces, and five different players had at least one.

Carrizoza continued her excellent passing ways, finishing the afternoon with 42 assists. It is the seventh game this fall in which she has recorded at least 40 assists in a match.

Avie Butsko had 11 kills against the Warriors to go along with two blocks and a pair of service aces. Everyone got in on the action defensively as well, as five players had at least 11 blocks, led by Valentina Trovato's 20.

The Spirit's road trip continues next week, as they head back to California to take on Life Pacific and Hope International. The Spirit swept Life Pacific last year, and have not seen HIU since the 2019 season.
