Spirit Streak Snapped at Life Pacific

SAN DIMAS, Calif. – The 20th-ranked OUAZ women's volleyball team saw its four-match winning streak end with a 3-1 loss at Life Pacific on Friday night.

The 17-25, 25-22, 17-25, 23-25 loss was the first of the season in conference play for OUAZ, who now sits at 12-2 overall and 5-1 in the Golden State Athletic Conference. The Spirit is now tied atop the conference standings with Vanguard.

Life Pacific (10-5, 3-3 GSAC) took advantage of the Spirit on the service line, where the Warriors finished the night with an 11-3 edge in service aces. They tallied eight of those aces in the opening set. LPU also had a 51-44 advantage in kills in the match, marking the first time this season an opponent had more kills in a match than the Spirit.

OUAZ recorded its 44 kills on .132 hitting, and they used 79 digs and six blocks to hold the Warriors to .165 hitting.

Kate Pestova led the Spirit with 18 kills and three blocks. Avie Butsko added eight kills, and Brooklyn Rainer had seven. Cristal Carrizoza posted a double-double with 39 assists and 12 digs. Valentina Trovato led the team with 19 digs.

Hannah Caddow led LPU with 19 kills and 18 digs.

The Spirit will have a quick turnaround as they play at Hope International on Saturday at 1 p.m.
