Spirit Bounce Back to Win at Hope

FULLERTON, Calif. – After suffering its first conference loss of the season on Friday night, No. 20 OUAZ responded with a 3-1 win at Hope International on Saturday afternoon to remain atop the GSAC standings.

OUAZ (13-2, 6-1 GSAC) controlled most of the action on Saturday in earning the 25-20, 19-25, 25-20, 25-15 victory. They held Hope International (5-11, 1-6) to .177 hitting – including .000 in the fourth set – and led every statistical category.

One day after losing the serving game, the Spirit came back to record 12 aces against the Royals while only getting aced six times. OUAZ added a 46-43 edge in kills while hitting .211. They were able to limit Hope's percentage with 55 digs and seven blocks.

Kate Pestova and Avie Butsko each finished in double figures in kills with 13 and 11, respectively. Chelsea Taylor added eight kills, and Kahea A'ea finished with seven.

Cristal Carrizoza once again was a crucial factor in the victory with 36 assists, 15 digs, two aces, and two blocks. It was her second straight double-double and seventh overall this season.

A'ea added five aces and ten digs. Erin Campbell also had ten digs while Taylor led the way with four blocks.

Carissa Wiles led the Royals with 16 kills and three aces.

OUAZ will step out of conference play on Tuesday night as they travel to Prescott to face No. 25 Embry-Riddle.
