Calzaretta's Pair Ignite Spirit Offense in First Win

The OUAZ women's soccer team took a long bus ride through Georgia for its next opponent, and the Spirit was able to earn a split of its Peach State road trip on Friday afternoon. Cassidi Calzaretta scored the first two goals of the match to get OUAZ going, and the Spirit found two more in a 1:36 span to defeat Thomas University on the road.

Calzaretta was awarded a penalty kick in the 34', finally putting the Spirit on the board after a great start to the match. After halftime, Calzaretta found the back of the net again, this time with the help of Saipress Jones in the 57'.

OUAZ was not done, and the team tacked on two more in a quick fashion. Emily Lynch scored in the 66', then Kendall Caron was able to extend the lead to four in the 67'.

The Spirit took control in all aspects of the match, including a 11-4 advantage in shots on target. Cassidy Samuelson made three saves for her first win of the new campaign.

The Spirit will have a chance to win its first home game of the season when they host Southwest (N.M.) on Thursday night. Kickoff from Spirit Field is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
