Spirit Clinch Conference's Second Seed in Regular Season Finale

GLENDALE, ARIZ. - The OUAZ women's tennis team wrapped up its regular season with a 6-1 win over William Jessup on Friday. It is the second consecutive dual win, and the team clinched the second seed in the GSAC Tournament set for next week.

OUAZ jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with matching 6-2 victories in the doubles matches. The Spirit continued its momentum into the singles competition, where the lead grew to 3-0 as the Warriors did not have enough players to play the five and six matches.

Jessup grabbed its only point in the threes match to pull themselves to 3-1. Veronica Gallardo responded to clinch the dual for the Spirit, as she put together an impressive two set win in her match, beating Ryanda Guerrero 6-1, 6-2.

Saskia Wells dominated from start to finish in her match, winning both sets 6-0, 6-0. Giulia Leali nearly matched that in the ones, taking down McKenzie Hawkins 6-0, 6-1.

The Spirit will wait for the official schedule of the GSAC Tournament, which gets underway on April 20. The second-seeded OUAZ team will have to win three times at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. in order to earn the conference's automatic qualifying bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
