Quattrocchi Pitches Spirit to Split of Weekend Series

SURPRISE, Ariz. – In one of the biggest contrasting days a team can have, the OUAZ baseball team split a doubleheader against The Master's on Saturday at the Surprise Recreation Complex. OUAZ would lose the opener 22-10 before taking the nightcap 3-0.

The results leave OUAZ with a 19-18 overall record and holding a three-game lead in the GSAC with an 8-4 record in conference play.

Anthony Quattrocchi (6-1) gave the Spirit exactly what they needed in game two by delivering a one-hit shutout. He held The Master's (24-16, 5-7 GSAC) offense that had just scored 22 runs to one infield single and a pair of walks while striking out eight in recording his second shutout of the year.

Quattrocchi was dialed in from the start retiring the first seven hitters he faced, including four by strikeout. He completed the seven innings with just 77 pitches with nine ground ball outs and four flyouts.

OUAZ scored single runs in the second, third, and sixth innings to support Quattrocchi. Nathan Tarver had the first RBI on a single while Jared Crockett and Jordan Hollins each had RBI doubles in the game. Elijah Celaya and Tristan Thomas each had two hits and scored one run.

The 22 runs scored by TMU in the opener tied the OUAZ record for most runs allowed in a game.

Hollins and Kobie Tinsley each had a pair of RBIs in the loss. Crockett picked up three hits in the game while Tinsley and Calvin Colon-Baez had two apiece.

OUAZ will now get set for the final weekend of the regular season as they host Arizona Christian on April 16-17 in Surprise Stadium. The Spirit can clinch the GSAC East Division, and a spot in the conference championship series, with two wins in that series.
