Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Offense Douses Firestorm to Stay Unbeaten

GLENDALE, Ariz. - The first two conference games for the OUAZ women's soccer team saw a lot of offense, and the trend continued on Tuesday during a 4-0 win over rival Arizona Christian in Glendale. The Spirit are 3-0 in conference play for the second consecutive season.

OUAZ had plenty of opportunities early in the first meeting earlier this season, but failed to cash in. The Spirit did not waste any opportunities in the first 13:16, getting goals from Haley Howard and Saipress Jones in that span.

Howard scored again just 52 seconds into the second half, pushing the lead to 3-0. Cassidi Calzaretta added one more in the 52', and the Spirit locked down the remainder of the game from there.

Despite clearing its bench and doing a near-full unit substitution, the Spirit continued to get great opportunities. OUAZ had eight shot attempts (four on target) and all three of its corner kicks all in the final 45. Mindy Lertzman led the game in shots with five in just 31 minutes as a substitute.

The Spirit played a great defensive game, allowing just seven shot attempts and no shots on target. OUAZ defended well without taking many liberties, as they had just four of the game's 15 fouls.

A chance to put themselves in the driver's seat in the GSAC East presents itself on Saturday, when OUAZ heads north to visit William Jessup. Kickoff from Rocklin is scheduled for Noon Arizona time.
