Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dominating Victory Puts Spirit Two Wins Away from GSAC Title Game

The OUAZ women's soccer team took its explosive offense up to Northern California, and busted out another three-goal performance in a 3-1 win over William Jessup on Saturday. It is the fourth consecutive game the Spirit have scored at least three times, and have scored more than once in every game this season.

Saipress Jones has gotten better each game, and Saturday was no exception. She started the scoring in the 17', and had an assist on the Spirit's second goal of the contest. It is the first time this season she has had a goal and an assist in a game, but has had at least two points in four games this spring.

Jones's goal was not the deciding one, as the Warriors tied the game in the 39'. The tally by Madison Leonhardt was WJU's only shot on target in the game.

The teams played at 1-1 through 15 minutes of the second half, but OUAZ broke through with a pair of goals in 2:30. Cassidi Calzaretta gave the Spirit the lead at 60:52, then picked up the assist on Haley Howard's goal at 63:22. OUAZ has scored eight second half goals in the four conference contests this season.

The Spirit controlled most of the game, as they had 18 shots and 10 shots on goal. They also took all five of the game's corner kicks, which came in the first half.

OUAZ now sits alone at the top of the GSAC East, defeating every team in the division through the first half of the season. They travel to play second-place Life Pacific next Thursday, and a win in San Dimas would put them just one victory away from securing its place in the GSAC Championship Game.
