Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Spirit Drop Pivotal Conference Matchup in Season's First Loss

An opportunity to become one win away from the GSAC championship game presented itself Thursday morning, but the OUAZ women's soccer team was unable to capitalize as they lost 2-1 at Life Pacific. It is the team's first loss of the season, and puts them in second place of the GSAC East.

Life Pacific was riding a four-game win streak entering Wednesday, its last loss coming in Surprise to OUAZ on February 24. The Warriors were able to extend that streak to five as Karen Jacobs scored her second goal of the game in 5:51 into the overtime period.

The game got off to a great start for the Spirit, as Haley Howard scored for the third consecutive game, her sixth goal of the year. That mark is second in the conference only behind Jacob, who scored her first of the day to tie the game in the 34'.

OUAZ owned a slight majority of the chances as they had 13 shots (six on target) and four corner kicks. They had three excellent opportunities in the second half, but Kassandra Ramierez stopped all of them.

The Spirit will now have to win out in order to stay pace with the Warriors in the standings, at least for now. OUAZ will have to wait six days to hit the pitch again, as they will travel to Santa Clarita, Calif. next Wednesday to take on The Master's.
