Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Single Goal Propels Spirit Into GSAC Title Game

Tuesday afternoon brought an unexpected opportunity for OUAZ women's soccer into the following day's matchup with The Master's. It was announced that Life Pacific would be forfeiting its final two games of the season, meaning the Spirit needed to win on the road in Santa Clarita, Calif. to secure its spot in the conference championship match.

The high-powered Spirit offense needed just one goal to claim the GSAC East crown, taking down the Mustangs 1-0. Saipress Jones recorded the only score, putting one in the back of the net in the 21'.

OUAZ had the majority of the opportunities, posting twice the amount of shot opportunities (10-5), and hitting the target five times while limiting The Master's to one shot on goal. The Spirit needed just one save out of Chloe Gutierrez, making that stop in the 32'.

It was a physical game for the third straight matchup between the two squads, as they combined for 25 total fouls. Each team was assessed a yellow card as well, with OUAZ's Syndee Busby picking one up in the 72', and The Master's Alexandria Dunn received one nine minutes later.

Paige Murray-Hernandez entered Wednesday ranked fifth in the GSAC in assists, and added another one to that total on the game's only goal. She has added a helper in two of her last three games, and now has five points in six games.

Though the Spirit have secured its place in the GSAC Championship Game, they still have two more contests to close out the regular season. They both are at home next week, and the first of those matches comes Monday morning against Arizona Christian.
