OUAZ Splits Doubleheader

HAWKINS, Texas – The OUAZ baseball team split a pair of 7-inning games at Jarvis Christian on Tuesday afternoon at the Bulldog Baseball Field. OUAZ took the opener 3-1 before falling in the second game 4-1.

With the two results, OUAZ is now 9-12 overall this season.

For the second time on the road trip Anthony Quattrocchi (3-1) was nearly unhittable on the mound. The junior notched his second complete game of the season and allowed just one unearned run on three hits while striking out a school record 11 hitters.

The Spirit would need the performance as they managed just three runs on their nine hits. Jordan Hollins broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field. Jared Crockett – who scored on a wild pitch in the third inning – drove in Daniel Partida later in the fourth for some insurance.

Quattrocchi stranded runners at second and third to end the game.

In the second game, OUAZ took a 1-0 lead on a Griffin Hagen sacrifice in the second inning and held that advantage until the bottom of the sixth inning when Jarvis Christian scored four unearned runs.

Hayden Sandman (1-4) gave up just one hit in 5.2 innings of work with nine strikeouts in suffering the tough loss. He was charged with the four runs allowed, but they were all unearned. Matthew Wilmot gave up the only other hit to the Bulldogs and had one strikeout.

OUAZ closes out its trip to Texas on Wednesday at 9 a.m. (AZ) with the final game of its three-game series at Jarvis Christian.
