Bats Awake as Johnson Dominates Bulldogs in Trip Finale

HAWKINS, Texas – Playing the final game of its eight-game road trip to Texas, the OUAZ baseball team put together one of its most complete performances of the season with a 15-0 win over Jarvis Christian at the Bulldog Baseball Field.
 
OUAZ (10-12) scored in every inning and all nine starters had at least one hit as the Spirit knocked out a season-high 15 hits. The total included seven extra-base hits while they also drew nine walks.
 
Nathan Tarver hit a three-run home run to left in the top of the first – his second of the season – to give the Spirit a 4-0 lead. That was part of his two-hit game that included four RBI. Griffin Hagen went 4 for 4 with a double, four runs scored, and three RBI.
 
Other Spirit players with a multi-hit game included Alex Chacon and Adrian Salazar. Chacon joined Deon Reese and Kobie Tinsley as the others with multi-RBI games.
 
The offensive explosion came in support of starter Gage Johnson (4-0). In six innings on the hill, Johnson gave up just three hits with eight strikeouts. He has now gone 11 straight innings without allowing a run.
 
The Spirit return to action on Tuesday when they host Arizona Christian on KC Royals 6 at 6:30 p.m. The game is the first to allow fans this season with tickets available later in the week.
