Spirit Continue Success against Wayland Baptist

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The 24th-ranked OUAZ football team scored the first 28 points of the game and cruised to a 34-15 win over Wayland Baptist on Saturday afternoon at Spirit Field.

On the team's first possession, OUAZ (2-1, 2-1 SAC) went 51 yards in eight plays and capped the drive with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Austin McCullough to Antonio Day. Two drives later, McCullough would hit Jeremiah Greylock for a 21-yard score to cap a seven-play, 86-yard drive.

Dranel Rhodes caught a 32-yard touchdown pass on the Spirit's next possession to make it 21-0 early in the second quarter.

The score wouldn't change again until the second play of the second half when Shamar Moreland broke off a 65-yard run for his fifth rushing touchdown of the season. Landon Reeves would hit a pair of field goals – from 31 and 24 yards – in the fourth quarter between a pair of touchdown drives from Wayland Baptist (2-3, 1-2).

OUAZ finished with 579 yards of offense and six drives of at least 60 yards. They converted 22 first downs and went 9 of 18 on 3rd-down. The Spirit struggled in the red zone with just three scores – one touchdown – on six trips.

McCullough went 25 of 40 for 383 yards and those three touchdowns. He completed passes to nine different players with Marcus Williams, Greylock, and Day leading the team with four catches each. Rhodes totaled 89 yards on his three grabs.

Moreland ran for 119 yards on 12 carries while Jordan Dixon ran 13 times for 60 yards. As a team, OUAZ had 196 yards rushing.

Wayland Baptist gained 491 yards of offense with 378 of that coming through the air.

De'Andre Armstrong led the Spirit with nine total tackles (five solo) and he had two pass breakups. OUAZ finished with 13 tackles-for-loss and five sacks from five different players.

OUAZ will play its final home game of the season next Saturday, April 3, when they host SAGU (Texas) and 11 a.m. Tickets will be available on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
