Spirit Stop Short Losing Streak with Victory Over Firestorm

SURPRISE, Ariz. - After a rough pair of duals, the OUAZ women's tennis team bounced back with a 5-2 win over Arizona Christian on Wednesday. The victory guarantees the team's first ever winning conference season.

The Spirit took the doubles point quickly, winning both matchups 6-2, 6-2. There was no third match played as the Firestorm did not have enough players for a third pair.

OUAZ entered the singles portion of the dual up 1-0, as Mitzy Rangel was victorious by forfeit. Veronica Grimes put the Spirit ahead 3-0 with her 6-1, 6-0 victory over Samantha Salim.

Guilia Leali clinched the dual for OUAZ, winning 6-3, 6-0 over Deondra Bacchus. Maya Salamon picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win to give the Spirit a fifth point on the afternoon.

The Spirit now have an opportunity to clinch its first ever winning regular-season when they host William Jessup on Friday in Glendale. The dual is scheduled to get underway at Noon from the Paseo Tennis Center in North Glendale.
