12th-Ranked Spirit Set Record with Five-Set Win Over Master’s

SURPRISE, Ariz. – For the first time since January 29, the 12th-ranked OUAZ men's volleyball team had a match go to a fifth set as they held off a feisty The Master's squad to stay undefeated in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

OUAZ (10-3, 6-0 GSAC) has now won a school-record eight straight matches after the 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-9 win. The Spirit have clinched a spot in the GSAC Championship match where they will face Vanguard on March 27 in Costa Mesa, California.

While they finished the match with a 56-49 advantage in kills, it was the 33 hitting errors and .173 hitting that kept The Master's (2-6, 2-4) in the match. The Mustangs hit .237 with just 18 hitting errors with 11 of those errors coming in the final two sets.

The Spirit took advantage of TMU in the serving game where they totaled eight service aces and got 23 missed serves from the visitors. OUAZ also held a 53-40 lead in digs to help offset the 12-7 edge TMU had in blocks.

Jordan Moses led three Spirit players in double figures with 20 kills. His second 20-kill outing of the season was his sixth straight match with at least 15 kills. His afternoon also included eight digs, four blocks, and two aces.

Emery Outin added a double-double of 17 kills and 14 digs – both are season highs – while serving three aces. Quaid King finished with 12 kills. Tatum Gray tallied 13 digs.

Brandon Botdorf led the Mustangs with 17 kills.

The Spirit have two regular season matches remaining with the first set for Wednesday as they host Arizona Christian at 6 p.m. in Faith Arena.
