Spirit Break Losing Streak With Solid Effort

SURPRISE, ARIZ. – "Home Sweet Home" finally rang true for the OUAZ women's basketball team on Tuesday night, as the Spirit broke its four-game losing streak with an 89-70 win over SAGU American Indian College. It is OUAZ fourth consecutive win over the Warriors, sweeping the season series in four straight years.

Four players scored in double digits for OUAZ, led by Landyn Lovelady's 17. Logan Koski added 12, and Marlee Johnson scored 11 for the second time this season against the Warriors.

Natasa Radovic finished two rebounds short of a double-double, grabbing eight rebounds to go along with her ten points. The Spirit moved the ball well offensively, picking up 28 assists on the night, with Jada Golding dishing the most with six helpers.

The Spirit scored the game's first 14 points, and were up 2-0 before tipoff due to an administrative technical assed to SAGU AIC. Despite being up as much as 16 in the first half, the Spirit's lead was down to one with 1:30 before halftime.

OUAZ entered the second half with a four point lead, and went on another 14-0 run in the span of 2:53 in the third quarter. The closest the Warriors got following that run was 13 points, and OUAZ scored six points in the final 2:08 to secure a 19-point win.

Lovelady shot well from the field, missing only three shots, all behind the arc. Koski had an excellent shooting night as well, going 6-10 from the field. Overall, five Spirit players posted a 50% or better field goal mark on Tuesday.

It was a team effort on the glass as well for OUAZ, as 11 different players grabbed a rebound. Seven OUAZ players had at least three rebounds, and five players had five or more boards.

The Spirit will have a chance to close out its season with a pair of wins over rival Arizona Christian. Tip-off on Thursday evening is set for 4:30, and fans will not be permitted inside of Faith Arena.
