Spirit Singed by Firestorm

SURPRISE, ARIZ. - The home portion of the OUAZ women's basketball season wrapped up with an 85-51 loss to rival Arizona Christian on Thursday night. It marks the tenth consecutive GSAC loss for the Spirit, a streak that dates back to last season.

OUAZ shot 27.7% from the field, marking the fifth conference game in which the Spirit have knocked down less than 30% of its attempts. Landyn Lovelady led the team in scoring for the second consecutive game, putting through 15 points on the evening.

Elizabeth Ortwine battled hard on the glass all night, grabbing eight rebounds to lead the Spirit. She also had four points and a pair of steals, one of three OUAZ players to have a multi-steal effort.

On her senior night, Elizabeth Garcia scored seven points, grabbed three rebounds and dished an assist. She will have another game to tack onto her career totals, but Garcia has already etched her name deep in the OUAZ record book.

Des Gonzalez picked up a double-double for the Firestorm, scoring 21 points to go along with 12 rebounds. She also had four block and four steals, leading ACU in both of those categories.

The Spirit will wrap up its season with another matchup with the Firestorm, this time in Glendale. Tip-off from the ACU Events Center on Saturday is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Arizona Time.
