Sunday Victory Extends Win Streak to Four

Janessa Rivera finished a double short of the cycle in the Spirit's second game on Saturday, but she hit two of them on Sunday to go along with another triple and 5 RBIs in OUAZ's 6-5 win over Bellevue on Sunday. The Spirit finished with a 4-1 record in the OLLU classic, and currently hold a four game win streak.

The morning did not get off to an ideal start, as Katlyn Kinman hit a leadoff home run to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. Bellevue stretched the lead to 4-0 by the middle of the third inning, but Rivera pulled the Spirit within two on her second triple in as many days.

Bellevue found one more run in the fifth, but Rivera struck again with a bases-clearing, 3RBI double to tie the game at five. Rivera came around to score when Briana Tucker tripled the next at-bat, and the Spirit did not surrender the lead from there.

Rivera's five RBIs on Sunday are the second-most in single-game program history. She set the record less than 24 hours earlier with her six-RBI performance against host Our Lady of the Lake University. Her 11 RBIs is the most in a two-game stretch in OUAZ history.

OUAZ pitching did not allow a hit in the final three innings, and only three total baserunners in the final nine defensive outs (two walks and a fielder's choice). Alexandra McCutcheon did not allow a hit in her 3.2 innings in relief of Cori Turner, striking out four along the way.

Mashayla Beltran had another solid day, going 2 for 4 and scoring two runs. Katelyn Chambers also reached base twice, scoring both times.

The Spirit will have a week off before heading back to Texas for the SCS NAIA Invitational. Game 1 of the invitational in Allen, Texas will be against Ottawa (Kansas) on February 19.
