OUAZ Completes Series Sweep to Leave California Alone in First Place

SAN DIMAS, Calif. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team extended its best start to conference play in program history with a 3-1 win over Life Pacific on Wednesday afternoon at Mehl Court.

With the 26-24, 22-25, 25-15, 25-21 win, OUAZ (6-3, 4-0 GSAC) has now won four straight GSAC matches to begin the year and they hold a two-game lead in the GSAC East standings.

It wasn't the fastest offensive start for the Spirit as they managed just 18 kills over the first two sets combined. They were able to turn the momentum 26 kills and only five errors over the final two sets, including .433 hitting in the third.

While Life Pacific (5-6, 1-3) finished the match with a 50-44 edge in kills, the Spirit used 10 blocks and 85 digs to limit the Warriors to .071 hitting. LPU hit negative in both the first and fourth sets.

Kate Pestova continued her torrid start to the season with another 17 kills on .279 hitting. The GSAC leader in kills per set has now been in double figures in every match this season. She also added 22 digs on Tuesday for her seventh double-double of the season.

Avie Butsko and Izze Gibbs added six kills apiece in the win. Brooklyn Rainer totaled five blocks with Valentina Trovato getting 21 digs.

Hannah Caddow led the Warriors with 16 kills but was held to .089 hitting.

OUAZ will look to maintain its conference lead next week when they host a two-match series against The Master's on Tuesday and Wednesday at Faith Arena.
