Spirit Swept in Series Opener

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team had its four-match conference winning streak snapped on Tuesday night as The Master's swept the Spirit at Faith Arena.
 
With the 18-25, 18-25, 25-27 loss, OUAZ (6-4, 4-1 GSAC) suffered its first home loss of the season.
 
The Spirit had a 35-33 edge in kills, including a 12-6 advantage in the second set. That wasn't enough to overcome their 24 hitting errors and nine missed serves. The Master's (4-1, 2-1) committed just 10 hitting errors and hit .225 against the .091 of the Spirit.
 
Kate Pestova led OUAZ with 12 kills. Izze Gibbs added six and Avie Butsko finished with five.
 
Valentina Trovato recorded 22 digs while Cristal Carrizoza had 15 assists and three service aces.
 
TMU got 11 kills from Jessi Swenning and 28 assists and four aces from Katie Emmerling.
 
The two teams will close their season series on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Faith Arena. A limited number of tickets are still available at OUAZSpirit.com/tickets.
