Spirit Score Five to Rout Life Pacific

SURPRISE, ARIZ. - Trailing 2-1, Life Pacific's Ceirra Little rang the game-tying goal off the crossbar. Ten minutes later, OUAZ scored to make the game 3-1, and the floodgates opened from there.

The Spirit scored three unanswered goals in the final 22 minutes of the game to beat Life Pacific 5-1 on Wednesday morning. OUAZ has won its conference opener every year the team has participated in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

Haley Howard netted a pair of goals in the first half, opening the scoring in the 6', then doing it again in the 23'. Cassidi Calzaretta assisted both of Howard's goals.

Paige Murray-Hernandez scored the goal in the 69' to push momentum the Spirit's way, then Saipress Jones found the back of the net in the 73'. Rowan Kerley and Kylee Bluemel each had an assist in the final 45.

The Spirit added a fifth goal when Yez Ocampo directed a shot toward the Life Pacific net that deflected off of the goalkeeper, then off a Warriors defender, and into the net for an own goal. The five-goal performance is tied for the most in a conference game in program history.

Each team took its opportunities offensively, as the day finished with 23 combined shots and 15 combined shots on goal. Chloe Gutierrez made five saves to record her collegiate win.

The Spirit will have eight days before they host The Master's for the second time this year. Kickoff from Spirit Field next Thursday is scheduled for 10 a.m. Arizona time.
