OUAZ Splits Two Matches on Saturday

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team split its two matches it played on Saturday at DeVos Gymnasium. OUAZ started the day by falling in three sets to Mayville State before coming back to sweep Trinity Christian In their final match of the trip.
 
With the two results, the Spirit are now 4-3 overall this season.
 
Despite finishing with a 42-35 advantage in kills against Mayville State, OUAZ lost the match 18-25, 21-25, 17-25. They were hurt by their 20 hitting errors while the Comets had just 10 errors and held a .234 to .159 advantage in attack percentage.
 
Kate Pestova and Avie Butsko finished with 12 kills apiece to lead the Spirit. Katie Defer added eight kills and .308 hitting.
 
Valentina Trovato recorded 31 digs for her second 30-plus dig match this week.
 
Following the loss to Mayville State, the Spirit immediately returned to the court to secure a 25-21, 25-23, 25-18 sweep of the host, Trinity Christian.
 
OUAZ knocked out another 41 kills on .290 hitting in the victory. They flipped the results from the first match by committing only 10 hitting errors while TCC had 22 in hitting .141.
 
Pestova added another 13 kills to lead the team once again. Butsko added nine kills on .727 hitting.
 
Trovato would get 15 digs and Sierra Dominguez tallied 19 assists and three service aces.
 
The Spirit will return to action on Tuesday when they open a two-day GSAC series at Life Pacific in San Dimas, California.
