OUAZ Swept in Trip Opener

JOLIET, Ill. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team opened its weekend trip in Illinois by falling in three set at Saint Francis (Ill.) on Friday night at the Sullivan Center.
 
In dropping the match 22-25, 20-25, 20-25, OUAZ falls to 3-2 on the season and has its two-game winning streak snapped.
 
The Spirit offense was on its season average with 25 kills through two sets, but they struggled to just six kills in the third to finish the night with 31 kills on .040 hitting. The Fighting Saints forced OUAZ into 26 hitting errors while getting nine blocks.
 
Kate Pestova recorded 12 of team's kills to reach double figures for the fifth straight match to start the season. She also hit a team-best .250 while adding a pair of service aces and eight digs.
 
St. Francis totaled 37 kills and hit .183. After posting a school-record 17 blocks on Wednesday night, the Spirit only had three in the loss. They did end with a 63-60 edge in digs and with eight service aces.
 
Brooklyn Rainer added five kills and Kahea A'ea led the way with 12 digs.
 
Lauren Stefanski led USF with 10 kills.
 
OUAZ will play a pair of matches on Saturday to complete the trip. They begin against Mayville State at 10 a.m. (AZ) before facing Trinity Christian at noon (AZ).
